About us, contact details and quotations

Our unit, based in the village of Keele in Staffordshire, UK, was set up by Professor Emeritus Dave Furness and his late wife in 2011 because we wanted to have access to our own light and electron microscopes when we retired from academia and research. It gave use the opportunity to continue our life’s passion when we left our research employment. The result of this  has been the establishment of an independent microscopy unit with light, confocal and electron microscopes, together with ancillary equipment for preparing samples.

With 40+ years experience of microscopy and prize winning images, AIM offers research scientists, hobbyist microscopists, the public and commercial entities the possibility to investigate samples scientifically or just acquire images that interest them.

If you are interested in obtaining images or data from your own samples, please contact us by email at:

We are happy to provide a competitive quotation for any project, amateur or professional, big or small, and to offer the option to visit us to see the facilities.
